Using art resources to create interface elements is easy, programming them harder, but you know it doesn't effect game play in any positive sense, it's another attempt to "reward" what we already have, and give the young new players more guidance on what is happening, more spoon feeding, and hey we are designing this new game lets test the system on the current customer base, if it sucks we can find out now instead of when we release the new game to hopefully double our revenue stream, because EVE is only going to get so big.
Before you load us up with more crap finish this game, and then leave it alone. I know it's a thankless job, and you get *****ed for every decision you make right or wrong, you know if I sat in a design session and said hey lets have all the players sit still, and shoot a big sphere "POS shield" in a void with another textured sphere near by "moon" you guys would laugh me out of the room, and say nobody will like sitting still and shooting at something for hours, how could that be fun? This is the current state of POS warfare, and one example of many that has a long way to go.
Will walking in stations provide the technology for the new game, and provide this one with the ability for the players to land on the planets? If so Great!
Is the reason for the speed nerf really to do with walking in stations? Did we hit the limit of what can be simulated while people wander around a station, and combat is taking place? Was affecting combat in space? If so is the speed nerf required to fix this issue? I am sure spending the 20-30 mil on art and technology, with an eye toward the Vampire's game use of this tech only to find out it was going cripple space combat is a terrible reality to face, is killing the speed the only choice and forcing bad design decisions the only solution at this point? If so tell us we are smart people, get your engineers in public at bit more tell us the truth.
If your are a dev and burnt out on making this game, which would make perfect sense to me after this many years of doing it, any new game would be good, hire people that care taking this game to the next level, its only one of its kind in the world, and can get better.
White Wolf was cheap because the games they made aren't very popular by the way, Vampire's are cool, but you don't own them, and have the only Space game worth playing ever since the day of Elite on my Apple 2. Many people can put a vampire class or even create a vampire based game, the word Masquerade is not a sales point. My prediction is that Eve will remain more popular then Vampire.
I waste my time on this because I care about Eve, have been in your shoes, the last two years have been great, looking forward to two more! Yes I am a game developer, 18 years of it, yes a lot of what I am saying above is guess work based on the reality of making games, and yes I have had to deal with people like me on forums for games like this.
Keep the fire burning guys, finish this game it's the best I have played, don't let it die!
This puts it best I think.
And in the spirit of this I bump this thread...
